What Brings Out Your Inner Child?

What's the one childish thing that you love, the one thing that always brings a smile to your face but that other people would laugh at if they knew? For me, it's balloons. I don't know why, but ever since I was a child, I've loved them. My birthday was yesterday. I'm 24, and this morning Joanie surprised me by putting a bunch of balloons all over my bed. These are the ones you blow up, not the helium ones. I have about three of those downstairs attached to my new bottle of nonalcoholic Inglenook wine. Anyway, there are 15 of these, cause Mom wouldn't let her do any more, but they're all over the place! Everywhere I turn there's a balloon. I've been kicking them, knocking them over, bouncing them and generally having a ball. I can't stop laughing and smiling, even now! So what brings out the inner kid in you? Btw, I have a balloon that's right against my elbow as I write this... lol

For me it is listening to books by Enid Blyton such as the Famouse 5 or the Secret 7.

For me it's old cartoons and Disney movies.

For me, its a store. Its the Sanrio store. I used to like Hello Kitty and her little bear, they look so cute together especially if they were wearing red. I still like the character but i no longer collect hello kitty stationaries and pink erasers. This brings out the child in me, I remember to always expect a hello kitty present every Christmas time when I was a child, but I don't do that anymore. I just smile everytime i look at this character its so cute. Okay, to some people its just a white cat with a red ribbon, but she's my all time favorite character. lol smiles.

for me it's snow. toys, especially toys stores. and there must be something particularly childish about me, because when there are kids around they always come to me and want me to play with them like i am one of them. and i do it and it comes natural to me. i think my inner child is still a rather dominant part of me, even if i am, and know how to be, an adult

Post 7 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 02-Dec-2007 21:00:51

For me it's Disney. Um, and old cartoons. And my cousin's toys. And Legos. And ... okay, anyway. My inner child doesn't need any 'bringing out', it never really goes away. :D But Disney is at the very top of the list--I love disney.

Oh wow... there are so many things that bring it back... well, it never really gone I think. my mom still have her child heart like we say in french and she gave it to me. this is a very precious thing. so I am all excited when the first snow comes, when I go to eat to restaurant, well, pretty much everytime I do something I like... and I am a big fan of some kids artists. lolll there is a french singer for kids, her name is Shilvi, what she does is just amazing, it's jazz, swing or bossa for kids, lyrics are great man, I love it. It was my 23 years old birthday on the 20th and I got some cds and... one of them was her last cd! lol and I think I am more happy than some real kids when I listen to it. Anyway, for me, a child heart is so important and it saves you in this hard life we live.

For me it's a toy store/toy department. I like getting to check out the toys, and I also still have toys I sometimes play with. I also like playing with the learning toys and the puzzles I collected. And I watch cartoons and I especially like mostly the older ones and like listening to some of the themesongs.

Post 10 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Monday, 03-Dec-2007 2:53:42

i so agree with post 8, and i couldn't have said it better. too bad many people are ashamed of showing their inner child maybe because they think it means being weak or stupid.
mmm legos! and supermag! and those elettronic toys like those cars that go around and make all those cool sounds... ehehe, i think the child in me never went away either. i too get excited for every little thing, like going out to mc donalds and my god you should see me when i have to leave to go on vacation.
and when i am playing with kids people often wonder if there's really that big age difference. lol.
but now i make like a good adult and go to work. ehehe

Oh, Merlin, the toy department at stores. It sucks they have to put everything in these stupid boxes with plastic wrap, so you can't reach through and feel them. sometimes you can, but it's only a few fingers at a time. There's this interactive doll I've seen advertised called Amazing Amanda. I don't want it, but I just wish there had been a doll like that when I was little.

Post 12 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Monday, 03-Dec-2007 3:41:02

oh my god interactive toys. i would have all of them if i could. they're absolutely my favorite. i have a furby i bought it not long ago and i play with it. besides taking care of him it has interactive games too and they are cool. damn if i would ever get anything for christmas i would always have wanted interactive toys

Post 13 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 03-Dec-2007 7:46:09

i miss my Furby. *sad smile* Does anyone know where I can get another one?

Post 14 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Monday, 03-Dec-2007 15:37:48

i found the last one ina toy department at the store. at least the last one of the old version, now there's the 2006 version, the baby. it's cheaper but it doesn't do that much. it says just a few things, and you can only feed it or tickle it. it doesn't recognize movement or if you rub its back and doesn't have interactive games.
mine's not the first version, it's the baby too but the old one that does many more things that the adult furby.
lol looks like i know alot about it. ehehe

Post 16 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Tuesday, 04-Dec-2007 19:21:13

Playing in the rain, especially running and jumping in puddles; playing at the beach; playing in the snow; playgrounds--I go out sometimes and climb on the jungle gym and slides and merry-go-round at school and the other teachers think I'm crazy, but the kids love that I'll do that; toys-especially those that involve building something or being creative.
I must go to the store to see a furby, as I have not ever had the pleasure of knowing one.
I hope that the child in me never goes away--it's a huge part of who I am and why I work so well with kids and why, even in difficult situations, I can usually find the fun and joy in life! Kids rule!
Oh, and have you ever been to one of those discovery museums? They have all kinds of hands on learning and fun. My best friend and I took our kids there one time and the kids had a good time but then were standing around, begging us to leave--she and I had a blast--we taught preschool at the time and I'm quite certain that she and I had more fun in that place than all the kids put together. LOL.

Post 17 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Wednesday, 05-Dec-2007 11:31:24

Gosh! Well, the things that would bring out the inner child in me are my cousins' dolls prams, interactive toys, space toys and in the case of my 8-month-old and favourite cousin Robbie, a couple of his textured rattly scrunchy toys as they feel all shiny, soft and silky, even when he's dribbled all over them, those wooden Fisher Price music boxes, two of which I've just bid for on Ebay, but lost one of them, damn it. Ah well! I won two of the toys I wanted there for my memorabilia box I'm putting together of my inner child memories, I remembered a couple of toys with bells and rattles in the middle I used to play with a lot when I was tiny, this plastic musical teddy with an immensely over large head, wiggling arms, rolling/blinking eyes and tiny little body compared to the size of his head, containing the pullstring musical box which plays "london bridge is falling down". I'm seeing a lot of my inner child self at the moment. Also, in toy stores/departments where some of the toys're on display, either in those open boxes/packages or just sat there on the shelf so I can play with them. Neat.

Jen.

I got a toy from my friend whose mom didn't want it anymore. It's a spin-off of ferby. He's a clam and his name is Shelby. Or, it could be a her, I don't know. lol

i found mine just because i was lucky. the one you can find now i think can only interact with furbies like them. not with the old ones or with shelby

my inner child? well, soft toy animals, would have to be those, *smile* i have quite a grown up collection here, some are display animals, IE large and they have a frame skeliton to them rather than just being well stuffed, but I do have some really huggable ones too. i always find that if I go into a major toy store, I have to look at the soft toy animals to see what they have in stock. i don't know about these interactive soft toys, i've heard of them but never seen or owned one. I am one of these people that if there's two of one type of soft toy left on a shelf and I am going to buy one of the remaining two, I will always buy the other because I don't like leaving one all alone, *grin* Ok, here's the fun part, I'm a male, age 29. I started my soft toy animal collection age 25. and it's grown and grown. some have left, as the collection has matured, IE the focus has shifted from the cheaper end of the market to higher end soft toys, but the collection is still there, I have a pride of lions, loads of tigers, masses of bears and loads of other big cats and badgers and things. hehehehe. there you go!

Post 24 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 23-Jan-2008 4:46:40

For me, it's playground equipment: swings, slides, merry-go-rounds, teeter-totters. Every so often, when friends and I encounter playground equipment, we'll go play on it like we were eight again. Last time I did that was at Perkins School for the Blind, with my ex boyfriend. He was a fairly new staff member there, but it didn't stop us from playing on the swings and other stuff like young students.

Post 25 by Albanac (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 23-Jan-2008 8:44:29

What brings out my inner child? Being awake, grin. Seriously I'm a big kid at most times, ask Lisa lol. On the furbies, I bought Lisa and Chianna one each from ... urm, Amazon I think it was. Not sure which version it was, so it may well have been the newer furby baby. Quite funny on occasion as he has a few little things he does very randomly like burp and blow rasberies and stuff. Lisa bought Amazing Amanda for Chi a while back and she never plays with it. lol Seems a bit crap to be honest. Definitely not the greatest interactive toy. I have to say as well that haing your inner child there is very important. You simply have to laugh don't ya, otherwise ... well it just makes things a lot more difficult if ya don't. OK that's me, and my bullet-proof guide duck Harold, signing out. So it's bye from me, and quack! from him.

I love swings too. There's this little park near us, and though it's not the only one, I like to go to this one because it really brings back my childhood. Even when I'm somewhere else and I smell wood chips and whatever they put on them, I think of that park. The amazing thing is that it hasn't changed at all since I was a child. I strted going there when I was a baby, so that's saying something! I guess some things you just can't forget. *smile* Oh, and I love swings too and always make a b-line for them when I go there.

Post 28 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Wednesday, 23-Jan-2008 14:59:27

Um, duh? I just realised I repeated myself. Maybe I should focus more on what I'm saying and less on how to edit with the Mac. Btw, my Macbook really brought my inner child too. I was so excited when I got it that you would've thought I just won the lottery. I had to try everything, even before reading the VoiceOver manual.

Swings, big playground slides, spinning, cartoons, my son's toys, Merry-go-rounds (The real ones they don't have them anymore), simple puzzles, Legos, little kids' books, and many many more.

Post 33 by Puggle (I love my life!) on Thursday, 24-Apr-2008 2:56:14

Little kids bring out my inner kid. I'm a bit like Chelsie, my inner child never stays in, she's always out. She's just quieter sometimes than she is at others. I love disney, thoughs golden books, playgrounds lego dolls houses teddy bears. cartoons. They are so funny! Kids music. I love going into the hospital and playing my guitar with the little kids. Learning hte kiddy songs and playing them at grown up parties is fun too heheheheh. I was at my friends 27th birthday the other week playing bob the builder and elmos song for her niece and nephew, and all the grown ups were singing along.

Swings! I regret that I no longer live near an elementary school. I used to, and liked to sneak over and swing in the middle of the night.

Post 35 by Devious_Britches (smarty pants) on Thursday, 24-Apr-2008 17:23:35

Ohh I think my inner child is well behaved and all grown up,l but I can tell you about my best friends inner child since he is from the zone I think I'll out him. When Mike aka Spicylife came out here to visit me we went to a store together and out of no where his inner child came out and scared the living shit out of me. Ok so the store is some what busy but not that bad I'm ahead of him looking at some thing and out of no where he lets out this shriek, that I could only explain as sounding like maybe a walrus in heat. I'm thinking omg is he ok. SO I run over to see and there he is yelling for me Yay yay yay it's a slinky as he waves it at me as if it were a winning lottery ticket. By this time every one has seen he's with me so I couldn't very well run away lol. So I got the kids his slinky and he was a good boy the rest of the day.

still the soft toy animals for me. i have found a shop in my local town that sells boyds bears and cosy friend stief, which is the non limited edition, less famous, but more cuddly version of stief animals. heheh lovely they are.
